Baseball Completes Series With TLU

SEGUIN, Texas – After taking the series opener, the Howard Payne baseball team fell 4-1 and 10-1 in their Saturday double header with Texas Lutheran University.

In game one, TLU built a 4-0 lead after five innings before the Jackets got on the scoreboard in the top of the sixth. With runners at first and third, Jake Sadler singled to the shortstop to score Carlton Brown. That would be as close as the Jackets would get losing 4-1.

Colton led the Jackets going 2-for-3 from the plate. Ben Butler recorded the loss giving up four runs on eight hits in six innings of work.

In game two, TLU again jumped out to lead midway through the game, 5-0 TLU. The Jackets would score in the sixth when Carlton Brown singled to score Sam Dollahite.

The Jackets recorded seven hits and were walked four times but were unable to bring any more runs. TLU had eight hits but were walked 10 times by the HPU pitching staff leading to the 10-1 final outcome.

Gilbert Barrera got the loss in the start going just 2.1 innings giving up three runs on two hits and walking five.
Dollahite and Brown each recorded two hits for the Yellow Jackets.

Howard Payne is now 18-16 overall and 4-8 in conference. Texas Lutheran stands at 25-8 overall and 11-1 in conference. The Jackets will be on the road again next weekend in Alpine, Texas versus Sul Ross State. The Friday single game will begin at 7:00 pm and the Saturday double header starts at 1:00 pm.
