GEORGETOWN, Texas – Howard Payne's
Danyel Bradley posted her second consecutive double double in a 77-68 victory over Schreiner University in the Southwestern Tournament Sunday afternoon.
Howard Payne played from behind most of the first half only holding a slight one point lead midway through the half. A
Sarahi Castillo free-throw with two seconds remaining in the half would give Schreiner a 33-30 halftime lead.
Both teams shot around 47% from the field in the first half with the Lady Jackets only connecting on 8 of 15 free-throws.
Howard Payne went on a 12-2 run in the opening minutes of the second to take a 45-40 lead with 12:27 left in the game.,The Lady Jackets would later push their lead to ten, 60-50 on a
Sarah Van Remmen jumper with 5:27 remaining.
Schreiner pulled to within four, 69-65 with just under a minute to play only to have HPU's
Danyel Bradley hit 8 of 8 free-throws in the closing minute to secure the Lady Jacket win 77-68.
Danyel Bradley finished with a game high 33 points along with a game high 11 rebounds. Bradley was 13 of 14 from the line.
Sarah Van Remmen added 18 points.
Sarahi Castillo scored 11 along with seven rebounds off the bench.
Jessica Leaks had eight rebounds off the bench, all on the offensive side.
Schreiner was led by Christonna Jones with 13 points. No other Schreiner player was in double digits.
Howard Payne is now 3-1 on the year and Schreiner falls to 1-6 overall. The Lady Jackets will play next on Dec. 4th versus conference opponent Mary Hardin-Baylor at 5:30 pm in the Brownwood Coliseum.
