BROWNWOOD, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor football team picked off Howard Payne six times to post an 84-13 victory over Yellow Jackets Saturday afternoon.
After three consecutive scores to start the game to give UMHB a 21-0 edge, a
Zarron Dove two-yard run cut the gap to 21-7. UMHB added four scores in the second quarter to their totals to give themselves a 49-7 halftime advantage.
The Yellow Jackets scored on the opening possession of the second half to move to within 49-13 on a
Richard Porche four-yard run. The Jackets would convert an on-side kick. and drive down to inside the UMHB ten-yard line, but an UMHB intercepted pass in the end zone and 100 yard return for a UMHB touchdown to make it 56-13.
Richard Young was 10-24 passing for HPU for 137 yards, but was picked off five times.
Colby Mica caught five passes for 110 yards. Davidson Johnathan had 11 carries for 63 yards.
Eduardo Nunez posted 11 tackles to lead the Yellow Jackets followed by Chris Hickey and
Jason Disney with eight tackles each.
The loss drops the Yellow Jackets to 4-5 overall and 1-3 in ASC play on the year. UMHB improves to 9-0 overall and 4-0 in conference play with the victory.
