Jackets Split DH With UDallas

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 BROWNWOOD, Texas – Howard Payne's Kyle Kulczyk went 3 for 3 from the plate in game one of a double header split for the Yellow Jackets with the University of Dallas Saturday afternoon at Don Shepard Park.

The Yellow Jackets won game one 9-6 but dropped game two of the double header 16-3.

Howard Payne jumped out to a 4-0 lead after scoring one in the second and three in the third. UDallas would score five over the next two innings to hold a 5-4 going into the bottom of the fifth.

The Jackets then scored four runs in the bottom of the inning to take the lead for good. Kyle Kulczyk singled to left center to bring home CJ Schumann. Kulczyk later scored on a wild pitch. Colton Brown then singled down the left line scoring Joshua Martinez and John Elmore.

Each team added a run in the sixth to round out the final 9-6 score in game one.

Dustin Kelver got the win in relief for Howard Payne throwing the final three frames and allowing just two hits. Jacob Spivey struckout five in the start allowing three runs on five hits.

Colton Brown, Jake Sadler, Joshua Martinez and Cody Cain all had two hits in the game.

In game two, UDallas jumped out to an early lead and never looked back scoring runs in their first four at bats. UDallas had a nine run third inning.

The Jackets did score in the first and third frames. Matthew Daniel grounded out to the shortstop to allow Colton Brown to cross homeplate in the first. Elmore scored on a wild pitch and Colton Brown scored on a passed ball in the fifth.

Matthew Parks got the loss for the Jackets in the start. Howard Payne would use six different pitchers in the game.

The two teams will finish out their weekend series with a single game at Don Shepard Park on Sunday starting at 1:30 pm.
