Jackets Take UDallas Series 2-1

In game three, Joshua Martinez was 3 for 5 from the plate versus UDallas

Box Score BROWNWOOD, Texas – The Howard Payne baseball team used a nine run seventh inning to defeat the University of Dallas 13-6 taking the weekend series 2-1 Sunday afternoon at Don Shepard Park.

After a one run top of the first for UDallas, the Jackets would score four in the second to gain a 4-1 advantage. Howard Payne had RBI singles from John Elmore, Cody Cain and Colton Brown.

UDallas added runs in the next three innings to reclaim the lead 5-4 after six innings.

It was the bottom of the seventh that was the game changer for the Jackets scoring nine runs on seven hits. Austin College would give the Jackets extra runners walking five batters in the frame.

Starter Corey Howie would strikeout five in the no decision for Howard Payne. Howie went five innings giving up four runs on nine hits walking only one. Jamie Boyd came in to record the win throwing three innings giving just one run on one hit. Nathan Weyrauch and Dalton Sembritzky would throw in the last frame.

Shortstop Joshua Martinez went 3 for 5 from the plate for the Jackets scoring two runs with two RBIs. John Elmore was 2 for 3 from the plate with three RBIs. Colton Brown and Kyle Kulczyk also had two RBIs each.

Howard Payne is now 3-1 overall to start the season. University of Dallas falls to 2-4 overall. Howard Payne will play next on February 21-22 at home in a conference series with Mary Hardin-Baylor.
