Jackets Split DH With HSU

Dustin DeJohn was 3-for-6 from the plate in the DH vs HSU

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 BROWNWOOD, Texas – Howard Payne split a conference double header with Hardin-Simmons 3-9 and 6-1 Saturday afternoon at Don Shepard Park.

The Jackets dropped the first game of the double header 3-9. With the Jackets leading 3-2 after three innings, Hardin-Simmons scored two in the fourth and four in the five to lead 3-8. HSU added a single run in the seven.

Jacob Spivey got the loss for HPU going 4.2 innings. Spivey gave up eight runs on eight hits and struck out three. Jamie Boyd would also strike out three in 1.1 innings of relief for Howard Payne. Dustin DeJohn was 2-for-3 from the plate with three RBIs for the Jackets.

Matthew Parks got the complete game win game two allowing just one run and three hits. Parks struck out six and walked three two improve to 5-1 overall on the year. Colton Brown, Joshua Martinez and Jake Sadler each had two hits for the Jackets in game two.

After Hardin-Simmons scored one in the top of the first, the Jackets responded with two in the bottom of the inning. Matthew Daniel singled home Colton Brown and a Kyle Kulczyk groundout would allow Joshua Martinez to score.

Jake Sadler would add three more runs in the third when he tripled down the right field line with the bases loaded. John Elmore added the last run for the Jackets in the sixth when he scored on a groundout by Joshua Martinez.

Both teams are now 6-9 overall and 5-8 in ASC action. Howard Payne will play next weekend in a conference series with at East Texas Baptist in Marshall, Texas.
