Jackets Split With ETBU

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 BROWNWOOD, Texas - The Howard Payne baseball team split their conference double header with East Texas Baptist University 0-3 and 3-2 Saturday afternoon.

It was a pitcher's game in game one with both teams combining for just six hits. Howard Payne managed just two hits and ETBU scored three runs on four hits to win 3-0. ETBU got all three runs in the fifth.

Corey Howie got the loss for HPU giving up three runs on four hits and striking out three. Howie walked just two in the complete game start.

Matthew Parks improved to 6-1 on the year in game two going seven full innings. Jamie Boyd threw the last two frames and recorded the save for the Jackets allow just one hit. Matthew Daniel and John Elmore each were 2-for-4 from the plate for HPU. 

With the Jackets leading 1-0, ETBU took the lead scoring two in the bottom of the seventh. The Jackets answered back in the top of the next inning when John Elmore singled to center to score Joshua Martinez. Then a Will Roberts pinch hit RBI single in the eighth scored Kyle Kulczyk to put the Jackets up 3-2. 

Howard Payne improves to 10-12 overall and 7-10 in ASC action. ETBU stands at 7-17 overall and 4-13 in conference. The two teams will finish their series on Sunday with a single game starting at 2:00 pm.
