Jackets Take ETBU Series With 12-2 Win

Colton Brown leads ASC in homeruns with five

Box Score MARSHALL, Texas - The Howard Payne baseball team unloaded for seven runs in the seventh to run-rule East Texas Baptist University 12-2 Sunday afternoon in American Southwest Conference action. Yellow Jackets take weekend series 2-1.

Colton Brown was 3-for-5 from the plate with three RBIs. Brown belted two homeruns in the game to place him at the top of the ASC in homeruns on the year with five. 

DH Will Roberts was 3-for-5 from the plate and Jake Sadler and John Elmore both were 3-for-4. Sadler also had three RBIs.

With ETBU leading 1-0, the Jackets scored four runs in the fourth to gain the lead. ETBU scored another run in the bottom of the inning but HPU answered with a single run in the sixth. The Jackets put the game away for good with the seven run seventh for the 12-2 run-rule victory.

Jacob Spivey got the win in the start to improve to 3-2 on the year. Spivey gave up two runs on five hits and struckout eight. Ethan Ferrel pitched one inning in relief striking out one.

Howard Payne is now 11-12 overall and 8-10 in conference play. ETBU stands at 7-18 overall and 4-14 in ASC play. The Jackets will play next at home on April 4th and 5th versus LeTourneau University.
