SHREVEPORT, Louisiana – The Lady Jacket volleyball team went 2-0 in day one of the Centenary College Tournament after defeating Rust (3-0) and Dillard University (3-2) on Friday afternoon.

In game one, Howard Payne handled Rust as they allowed only 12 points the entire match after winning 25-2, 25-5, and 25-5. The Lady Jackets picked up a total of 35 service aces marking a new team season high and had a .697 hitting percentage which is also a new season high.

Micah Cisneroz and Arien Ditto each had six kills apiece. Alyssa Beasley had five on the match. Cheyanne Lovelady picked up 13 service aces. Taylor Reid had 11. Lovelady also led with 10 assists.

For Rust, Eboni Johnson led with three kills. Chasity Powell and Marashia Hamilton each had two digs.

Game two was a little more competitive against Dillard as the Lady Jackets went five sets before picking up the win with scores of 22-25, 25-23, 23-25, 25-9, and 17-15. Howard Payne posted 52 kills, 12 aces and 51 assists on the match.

Shelbie Harry led with 18 kills while picking up 18 digs, both mark a new season high for her. Alyssa Beasley also had 11 kills. Katie Schulte also had a day to remember picking up 20 assists which is a new season high. Cheyanne Lovelady had 16 on the match respectively. Analisa Anzaldua led in digs with 19.

For Dillard, Chelsea Wilkinson led with 10 kills. Chelsea Jolivette had 22 assists, and Demetria Horton led with 21 digs, Dillard picked up 71 digs to Howard Payne's 67.

After the two wins, the Lady Jackets are now 4-19 on the year. Howard Payne will be back in action tomorrow morning where they will play in day two of the Centenary College Tournament with the first match scheduled for 10:00 a.m. against Austin College, followed by a 12:00 p.m. matchup with the host team, Centenary College.
