Jackets Fall At UMHB

BELTON, Texas - The Howard Payne University football team fell 67-14 to #10 University of Mary Hardin-Baylor Saturday afternoon in conference action.

The Yellow Jackets put up 282 yards of total offense in the first half but would trail 30-14 at intermission. 

After Mary Hardin-Baylor jumped out to a 23-0 lead by the start of the second quarter, Howard Payne got the offense going with two rushing touchdowns.

A Ja'Von Dickson one-yard run capped a six play, 67 yard drive to make the score 23-7 UMHB. The Jackets fumbled on their own one yard line and UMHB recovered in the endzone on the Jackets next possession, 30-7 UMHB.

Then with 1:03 remaining in the first half, Patrick Hernandez ran it in from one yard out to make the score 14-30 at the half. That scoring drive took nine plays, 74 yards and just 1:39 off the clock.

It would be all UMHB in the second half with the Cru scoring three touchdowns in the third and two touchdowns and a field goal in the fourth.

Richard Young was 15-for-31 passing for 196 yards and one interception. Caisson Montieth and Brandon Fisk also saw action at quarterback for Howard Payne.

Colby Mica had five catches for 91 yards. Fred Pitts led the Jackets on the ground with 40 yards on just two rushing, his time was limited due to injury.

Jason Disney had nine tackles, four solo and Jordan Shaw followed with eight tackles, six were solo. Kris Mack had five tackles with three pass breakups. He still leads the ASC with 19.

Zach Anderson led UMHB with 13-for-33 passing for 244 yards and two TDs. Duane Thompson had eight carries for 114 yards and a TD. Wykeyhe Walker had six catches for 152 yards and two TDs, both from Anderson.

Howard Payne is now 1-8 overall and 1-3 in American Southhwest Conference play. #10 UMHB is now 8-1 overall and 3-1 in league action. The Jackets will be at home next Saturday in their season finale vs Sul Ross State University starting at 1:00 pm. It will be senior day and HPU will recognize and Jackets seniors before the game.
