TYLER, Texas - The Howard Payne women's basketball team's late game rally came up short as the Lady Jackets fell 89-86 to #13 University of Texas at Tyler Thursday evening in their conference opener.
Down 10, 88-78 with 2:27 remaining in the game, the Lady Jackets put together a 8-0 run to pull within two with :32 seconds left to play. After Texas-Tyler hit one of two free-throws, Danyel Bradley's three-point attempt at the buzzer to tie the game did not fall and the Lady Jackets lost 89-86.After holding a 22-19 leading at the end of the first quarter, Howard Payne would be outscored 27-19 in the second and 25-18 in the third to find themselves down 71-59 going into the fourth quarter. 
Howard Payne started the fourth with a 5-0 run in the first minute and a half to pull within seven, 71-64. The Patriots shot 44.3 percent from the field (39-for-88), but the HPU defensive pressure from beyond the arc held UTT to just 2-for-15 shooting after averaging 12.5 three-pointers per game this season. 
Danyel Bradley led HPU with 20 points along with seven rebounds and three assists. 
Yessenia Cazares had a great overall game with 14 points, four steals and three assists. Micah Cisneros finished with 13 points and a team high four assists and nine rebounds. Sarahi Catillo added 10 points and seven rebounds. With her seven rebounds on the night, Bradley also passed 500 rebounds in her career.
Texas-Tyler was led by Shuntay Raglin recorded a double-double with 25 points and 10 rebounds.Howard Payne is now 2-4 overall on the season and 0-1 to start American Southwest Conference play. #13 Texas-Tyler stands at 4-0 overall and 1-0 in conference action. The Lady Jackets will be at LeTourneau University on Saturday for a 1:00 pm tip-off.
