LONGVIEW, Texas - The Howard Payne University women's basketball team was outscored 27-19 in the fourth and fell 75-69 at LeTourneau University Saturday afternoon in conference action.
Howard Payne led 50-48 going into the fourth quarter but an 11-0 run by LeTourneau midway through the last quarter resulted in a 67-59 advantage for LeTourneau with two minutes remaining. The Lady Jackets would pull within four with just under a minute left on a
Danyel Bradley three-pointer but Letu went on to secure the game 75-69 hitting four of five free-throws down the stretch.
Howard Payne started the game strong and built an eleven point lead midway through the first quarter. LeTourneau inched back to within two, 33-31 Howard Payne at the half.
Though Howard Payne outshot LeTourneau in the game 44% to 38%, Letu won the battle on the glass leading 48-36. The Lady Jackets also did not fair well at the free-throw line hitting just 14 of 26 attempts (53.8%).
HPU was led by
Sarahi Castillo and
Danyel Bradley each with a game high 19 points and each pulling down five rebounds. Bradley also had a game high four assists.
Ashley Stephens and LaTanya Drakes each had 18 points for LeTourneau. Stephens finished with 14 rebounds and Drake followed with 10 boards.
Howard Payne is now 2-5 overall and 0-2 in American Southwest Conference action. LeTourneau stands at 4-3 overall and 2-0 ASC play. The Lady Jacket will play next on December 12th at Schreiner University in Kerrville, Texas.
