Jackets Take UMHB Series 2-1

BELTON, Texas – The Howard Payne baseball team split a double header with Mary Hardin-Baylor 4-2 and 0-7 to take the series 2-1 Saturday afternoon in conference action.

Howard Payne posted a four-run third inning to take game one of the double header 4-2.

John Elmore singled home the first two runs, Dustin DeJohn singled home the third and the final run scored on a throwing error.

UMHB put a run on the board on an HPU throwing error in the bottom of that inning and a solo homer cut the gap to 4-2 in the bottom of the sixth. UMHB put two runners on in the bottom of the seventh, but the Jackets would get out of the inning to post the victory.

Shae Edmonds got the complete game win, he allowed just two runs on five hits and struckout two. Five different Jackets would record hit with John Elmore leading with two RBIs.

UMHB put two or more runs on the board in three different innings to lead to a 7-0 loss for the Jackets in game two.

Jacob Spivey took the loss for the Yellow Jackets to drop to 0-1 and Brandon Garrett had three of HPU's four hits in the game.

Howard Payne moves to 3-2 overall and 2-1 in the ASC following the split. UMHB is now 1-3 overall and 1-2 in ASC play. The Yellow Jackets will play next weekend at home in a conference series with the University of the Ozarks.
