TYLER, Texas – The Howard Payne women's basketball team season ended with a 76-47 loss to #11 University of Texas at Tyler Friday evening in the second round of the American Southwest Conference tournament.
The Lady Jackets kept things close in the first half, coming back from a 10-point deficit with 5:56 remaining in the opening-half.
Sarahi Castillo made a pair of buckets in a one minute-span, cutting the Patriots' lead to just 30-28 with 3:17 left in the first frame.
Texas-Tyler would respond itself over the last three minutes, closing out the half on a 9-to-1 run, taking a 39-29 lead into the locker room.
UT-Tyler would put the game away in the first three and-a-half minutes of the second half, going on a 12-0 run, going up 51-29 with 16:47 left to play.
UT-Tyler would lead by as much as 32 points, 76-44 with 2:00 minutes to play, holding on to win 76-47.
Texas-Tyler would shoot 54-percent in the second half, while the defense held HPU to a stunning 16-percent, as the Lady Jackets made just six shots over the final 20 minutes.
Danyel Bradley led HPU with a game high 23 points along with six rebounds. Senior
Kalin Hanna finished with six points and two blocks, which gave her 90 on the season. She breaks her previous ASC season blocks record of 89 set last year.
Jasmin Baskin would lead the way for UTT scoring 19 points, while May finished with 17 points in the win.
Brittany King would finish the night with 13 points, while fellow post-players D'Onna Matthews and Madison Wilson would finish with 12 and 10 apiece.
Howard Payne finishes the year at 16-11 overall and UT-Tyler continues to the conference championship game with a 26-1 overall record.
