BROWNWOOD, Texas - The Howard Payne baseball team fell 8-2 in the conference series opener with East Texas Baptist University Friday afternoon at Don Shepard Park.
It was a six run second inning by ETBU that proved to be the difference in the game forcing the Yellow Jackets to play from behind.
Howard Payne would be their two runs in the third and fourth frames. A
Walker Dailey double to left field scored
Jake Sadler in the third then it was a
John Elmore advanced to third on a wild pitch and score on an error by third baseman in the fourth.
Jake Sadler finished 3-for-4 from the plate and Dailey added two hits.
Jacob Spivey got the loss in the start going seven full innings and striking out four.
Nathan Weyrauch,
Garrett Virgin and
Zach Moseley also saw time in relief.
The Yellow Jackets are now
10-12 overall and 5-10 in ASC play. ETBU stands at,10-10 overall and 3-7 in league action. The two teams will finish out their conference series with a double header tomorrow starting at 1:00 pm.
