BROWNWOOD, Texas—The Howard Payne baseball team fell 8-7 and 5-3 in a conference doubleheader to East Texas Baptist Saturday afternoon at Don Shepard Park.

Cody Cain finished the day 4-for-8 from the plate with two RBI.
Kyle Ramon struckout four in 3.2 innings of relief for the Yellow Jackets.
Game One ETBU 8, HPU 7
ETBU started with two runs in the top of the first off a two run homerun. HPU came right back with three runs in the bottom of the first to take a 3-2 lead going into the second.
Jake Sadler singled to right field to score
Brett Quackenbush. Then
John Elmore singled to right field to plate
Matthew Daniel. Lastly,
Dustin DeJohn singled to center field to bring home Sadler.
In the top of the third, ETBU evened the score with a RBI double and then in the top of the fourth took back the lead on an error with the bases loaded.
Down 4-3, HPU struck in the bottom of the fourth with four runs to take a 7-4 lead.
Cody Cain doubled down the lf line to score DeJohn and Elmore. Quackenbush would double to right to score Cain. Finally, Daniel singled through the left side to bring home Quackenbush.
ETBU responded with a four run top of the fifth to make it 8-7.
Howard Payne would have the winning run on base and would not be able to bring them home.
Game Two ETBU 5, HPU 3
HPU took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second off an RBI single by
Will Roberts to right field to score Elmore,
ETBU would get on the board in the fourth inning with a homer to left center to tie the game at 1-1. Then in the top of the sixth ETBU scored three runs to take a 4-1 lead.
In the bottom of the eighth, HPU got two back to pull within 4-3. Quackenbush doubled to left field to score
Brandon Garrett. Then Daniel singled to left field to score
Micah Thompson who had pinch ran for Quackenbush.
But in the top of the ninth ETBU scored to give themselves a 5-3 advantage.
Howard Payne is now 10-14 overall and 5-12 in ASC action. ETBU stands at 12-10 and 5-7 in conference play. The Jackets will play next weekend on the road at LeTourneau University in Longview, Texas.
