PINEVILLE, Louisiana - The Howard Payne baseball team fell 4-6 and 1-2 in failed comeback rally and a pitcher's dual loss to Louisiana College Saturday evening in conference action.

The Yellow Jackets scored three runs in the top of the seventh with just one out to pull to within two, 4-6, of Louisiana College. Howard Payne would then strand two runners to end the rally and the game.

Howard Payne fell behind 5-0 after a four run third by LC. HPU answered in the fifth when Walker Dailey reached on an error by third baseman to score Connor Roberts.

After LC added a single run in the fifth, the Jackets rally fell short in the seventh for the 4-6 loss.

Shae Edmonds recorded the loss giving up six runs on 11 hits, striking out two and walking none. Connor Roberts was 2-for-3 from the plate and Brandon Garrett had two RBIs.

It was a pitcher's dual between HPU's Jacob Spivey and LC's Ockman. Spivey allowed two runs on five hits, striking out five and Ockman recorded 10 strikeouts.

After LC scored two in the second, the Jackets got on the board in the fourth when Matthew Daniel scored on an error by the third baseman after stealing third base.

Later, the Jackets would strand two runners in the eighth but that was as close of an opportunity as they would get falling 1-2.

Shawn Brody saw one inning of action in relief striking out two and allowing no hits.

Howard Payne is now 6-5 overall and 3-4 in American Southwest Conference play. LC stands at 5-7 overall and 3-5 in league action. The Jackets will have a non-conference double header on Tuesday at home versus the UNiversity of Dallas starting at 1:00 pm.
