LONGVIEW, Texas - The Howard Payne baseball team won 5-4 over LeTourneau despite being outhit 10-7 and committing three errors Thursday evening in league play.

Howard Payne used four-different pitchers in the game and had seven hits in the win.
Brandon Garrett and
Dustin DeJohn each had two hits to lead HPU.

LETU took an early in the bottom of the first scoring twice. HPU came back to tie it in the second inning, scoring twice on a Garrett single.

Howard Payne took its first lead of the game in the fifth inning when they scored twice for a 4-2 lead. LeTourneau cut the deficit to 4-3 with a RBI single in its half of the inning. Then, in the seventh, LeTourneau tied it with a the bases loaded walk for a run.,

With the game tied at four, in the top of the 8th, Howard Payne scored as they capitalized on an error by LeTourneau for a 5-4 lead. Then, LeTourneau mounted a threat in its half of the eighth. A LETU single and walk prompted a HPU pitching change. After a wild pitch moved the runners to second and third, the new pitcher –
Kyle Ramon – got a strikeout and a fly out to end the threat.
Dustin Kelver moved to 1-1 on the year recording the win in an
inning and two-thirds of relief after
Shae Edmonds went five innings in the start.
Kyle Ramon picked up his fourth save of the season throwing the last inning and two-thirds of the game.
Howard Payne is now 11-14 overall and 6-12 ASC action. LeTourneau stands at 9-8 overall and 7-5 league play.,The two teams will wrap up the series with a doubleheader on Friday at 1 p.m.
