BROWNWOOD, Texas – Howard Payne University posted its fifth consecutive victory in a 71-65 win over McMurry University Saturday afternoon at the Brownwood Coliseum.
In a game that was every bit as close as the score would indicate – no team's lead grew past single digits with HPU holding the lead for better than 33 minutes of the game.
Howard Payne used 45% shooting in the second half while holding McMurry to just 36% shooting for the game to keep War Hawks on their heels for most of the game.
Khyce Randall finished with a game and career high 25 points on 6-of-8 shooting from behind the arc.
Volney Willis followed with 10 points.
The Yellow Jackets outrebounded the War Hawks 45-35 and led 30-20 in points in the paint.
Aaron Gettys led the War Hawks in scoring with 15 points. Estrada finished with 11 points.
Howard Payne now stands at 7-9 overall and McMurry falls to 2-15 on the year. The Jackets will be on the road next week, at Mary Hardin-Baylor on Thursday at 7:30 pm and Concordia Texas on Saturday at 3:00 pm.
