BROWNWOOD, Texas - The Howard Payne University men's basketball team fell 78-69 to Sul Ross State University Saturday afternoon in conference play at the Gallego Center.
Down by as much as 13 in the second half, the Jackets rallied late to cut the game to two. A
Khyce Randall jumper with 1:54 left to play made the score 65-63 Sul Ross. Two three-point buckets and 7-of-8 free-throws secured the win for Sul Ross 78-69.
The Jackets outrebounded the Lobos 54-34 but HPU would finish the game 11-of-29 from the free-line proving to be the difference in the game.
Rickey Guillory finished with 21 points and 11 rebounds for the Jackets.
Khyce Randall and
DJ Gardner each added 11 points.
Sul Ross was led by Rocky Feliciano with a ga e high 26 points. Caleb Caloss had 15 points and Xavier Webb had 14.
Howard Payne is now 8-12 overall and 4-6 in American Southwest Conference play. Sul Ross stands at 11-8 overall and 7-3 in league action. The Jackets will be in Abilene, Texas next Thursday versus McMurry University at 7:30 pm.
