Match ResultsBROWNWOOD, Texas - The Howard Payne University women's tennis team opened its 2016 season with a 5-4 victory over Concordia University Texas Saturday afternoon at the Nabers Tennis Center.
The Lady Jackets started the match strong taking the three double matchups 8-5, 8-6 and 8-4.
Alex Marlin and
Erin McClear defeated Leyla Martinez and Alexis Popovich of Concordia 8-5 in number one doubles.
Brittony Walker and
Breanna Hunt defeated Cassedy Crawford and Giselle Dall'Oso 8-6 in number two doubles. Lastly, in number three doubles
Devin Mendelson and
Callie Molloy won 8-4 over Genesis Carreon and Rean Vanderbilt.
Concordia would take the number one, two, three and five singles points.
HPU's McClear won 6-1, 6-3 in number four singles and
Callie Molloy won 6-1, 6-4 in the number six singles spot to claim the 5-4 team victory for Howard Payne.
Howard Payne will play next on Saturday, February 6th versus Austin College, a neutral site match in Abilene, Texas. It will be a 3:00 pm start time for the women's and men's teams.
