ABILENE, Texas – The Howard Payne University soccer team fell 5-1 to Hardin-Simmons University Saturday in conference action on the road.
After Hardin-Simmons jumped out to 2-0 advantage scoring goals in the first ten minutes of the match, Howard Payne freshman
Tim Murphy netted his first goal as a Yellow Jacket. It came in the 14th minute on an assist from
Tracer Moore.
With the score 3-1 Hardin-Simmons at the half, HSU added two additional goals in the 55th and 64th minutes to claim the match 5-1.
Nicholas Panameno played all 90 minutes in goal for HPU recording the loss. Panameno allowed five and had eight saves which included a penalty kick in the 88th minute.
Hardin-Simmons outshot Howard Payne 24-8 overall and 13-6 in shots on goal.
Alex Sanchez led HPU with two shots both on goal and
Tracer Moore added two shots, one on goal.
Howard Payne is now 0-6-1 overall and 0-3-1 in American Southwest Conference action. Hardin-Simmons stands at 6-2-1 overall and 4-0-1 in league play.
