LONGVIEW, Texas - Josue Vasquez's golden goal lifted the Howard Payne University men's soccer team a 3-2 overtime victory over LeTourneau University Saturday evening.
The Yellow Jackets picked up their first conference win of the season with a 3-2 overtime victory over LeTourneau University. Josue Vasquez scored his second and third goals of the season with the second coming in overtime for the victory.
After the Jackets fell behind 2-0 at the half, Vasquez scored his first goal of the day on a pass from
Roger Bonilla inside the box in the 78th minute. Just a minute and a half later, Daniel Lemus netted his first goal of the season on a passed ball across the net from
Alex Sanchez tying the match at 2-2.
With the teams tied up at the end of regulation, it would be Josue Vaquez in the 95th minute that ended the match after stealing it from a LeTourneau player.
Nicholas Panameno picked up the win in goal for HPU allowing two goals and recording seven saves.
Dylan Person led HPU with five shots, one on goal. Josue Vasquez,
Reid Longabaugh and Daniel Lemus each had three shots for the Jackets.
Howard Payne is now 2-8-1 overall and 1-5-1 in American Southwest Conference action. LeTourneau falls to 5-7-2 overall and 2-4-0 in conference play. The Jackets will play next on Oct. 20th in Brownwood versus the University of the Ozarks at 3:30 pm
