MARSHALL, Texas – Howard Payne University football was downed 76-14 by East Texas Baptist University allowing the Tigers over 650 yards of total offense Saturday evening at Ornelas Stadium.

The Howard Payne offense totaled 274 yards of total offense, 90 rushing and 184 passing with three interceptions. The Jacket defense did force two fumbles and picked off ETBU once while allowing 679 yards of total offense.

East Texas Baptist opened up the game with a 20-0 lead with four minutes left in the first quarter before Howard Payne would be able to answer.

Jackets finally got on the scoreboard with :40 seconds left in the first quarter on a 27-yard touchdown pass from Caisson Montieth to Adrian Finley. The TD capped a seven play 78 yard drive by the Jackets that took 3:18 off the clock. The Jason Disney extra point made the game 20-7 ETBU.

HPU recorded its second touchdown in the third quarter this time on a 14-yard pass from Trey Potter to Eric Haverstock. The TD came at the end of a 12 play 77 yard drive by the Jackets that was capped by a Disney extra point. 41-14 ETBU.

Ezekiel Jordan had 54 yards on seven carries followed by Shannon Warren with 49 yards on 13 carries. Caisson Montieth was 9 of 18 passing for 122 yards and one TD. Trey Potter was 5 of 17 for 62 yards and a TD.

Jason Disney led the HPU defense with a game high 10 tackles followed by Kris Mack with nine.

Howard Payne is now 0-7 overall and 0-4 in American Southwest Conference action. ETBU stands at 6-1 overall and 2-1 in league play. The Jackets will play next week at home versus McMurry University at 4:00 pm. It will be Howard Payne's Homecoming weekend.
