KERRVILLE, Texas - The Howard Payne University women's tennis team had a strong showing at the Schreiner University Tournament posting team victories over Centenary, Ozarks and Sul Ross State this weekend.

On Friday, Howard Payne took on Centenary College (LA) and the University of the Ozarks gaining 9-0 and 8-1 wins respectively.

Versus Centenary. HPU claimed the number 1-5 singles in straight sets and the sixth spot by default. The Lady Jackets won number one and two double both 8-0 and the third by default.

The Ozarks match was more competitive with Howard Payne only dropping the number five singles 4-6, 6-2, 17-15.

On day two of the tournament, HPU opened up with a 6-3 victory over Sul Ross State. HPU's Brittony Walker won a thrilling two set tie-breaker over Marissa Rodriguez 7-6 (7-4), 7-6 (10-8) in number two singles action. 

Howard Payne would fall 9-0 in their final match of the tournament to host Schreiner. The Lady Jackets would have a strong showing in number one and two doubles falling 8-6 and 8-4.

Howard Payne is now 4-2 overall on the season and will play next on Monday, Feb. 29th at home versus Southwestern University starting at 12:00 noon.
