BROWNWOOD, Texas - The Howard Payne University baseball team took a non-conference game from Southwestern Assemblies of God University 3-1 Tuesday afternoon at Don Shepard Park.
After
Zach Moseley went 3.0 innings in the start allowing just three hits and striking out three,
Chad Anders threw the next four frames picking up his first win of the season. Anders allowed just one run on four hits and struckout two.
Dylan Hudson threw the sixth and
Adrian Acosta picked up the save throwing the ninth, striking out two.
The Yellow Jackets scored first when
Cody Brown reached on an error by the third baseman to plate
Brandon Garrett from third.Â
Southwestern Assemblies tied the game at 1-1 on RBI single in the seventh, but the Jackets would answer in the bottom of the inning to regain the lead.
Blake Laney singled through the left side to score
Matthew Daniel. 2-1 HPU.
Howard Payne added an insurance run in the eighth when a
Brandon Garrett sac bunt allowed
Cliff Lunceford to score. 3-1 HPU.
Cliff Lunceford was 3-for-4 from the plate with three stolen bases for the Jackets.
Brandon Garrett finished with two stolen bases.
Howard Payne is now 5-3 overall and Southwestern Assemblies stands at 9-12 on the year. The Jackets will have a home conference series with the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor this next weekend. The single game will be on Friday at 2:00 pm and a double header on Saturday starting at 12:00 noon.
