AUSTIN, Texas - The Howard Payne University women's tennis team came storming back to claim a 5-4 conference victory over Concordia University Texas Friday afternoon at the River Place Country Club.

Concordia took a 2-1 lead after three hard-fought doubles matches.
Erin McCleer and
Alex Marlin took the number one doubles 8-6, but CTX won the two and three doubles matches 9-7 and 9-8 respectively.
Howard Payne trailed 4-1 after Concordia wins in number three and four singles, but Lady Jackets wouldn't go away storming back to a 5-4 win.
In singles play, HPU's
Brittony Walker won 1-6, 6-3, 7-6 (10-3) in the number one spot.
Alex Marlin won 6-2, 6-7 (7-10), 7-6 (10-4) in number two singles and
Callie Molloy picked up a 6-2, 6-3 victory in number five singles.
The match came down to the number six singles match ending the day with a 7-5, 6-4 vicotry for HPU's
Devin Mendelson giving HPU the 5-4 team victory.
Howard Payne is now 5-7 overall and 1-1 in American Southwest Conference West Division action. Concordia stands at 1-7 overall and 0-2 in league play. The Lady Jackets will be at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor on Saturday for a 10:00 am conference match.
