BROWNWOOD, Texas – Coming off of a heartbreaking home loss on Tuesday, the Lady Jackets came out intent on righting the course and they did so in grand fashion by sweeping the ASC West division leader Hardin-Simmons.
The Yellow Jackets beat the Cowgirls in three sets (25-23, 27-25, 25-19) to bring their ASC record to 2-3. It was their fourth win in six matches and they did it with a complete team effort.
Howard Payne was able to hold Hardin-Simmons to a –.024 attack percentage and forced 11 errors while gathering ten kills to run away with the first set, 25-23. The second set was fiercely contested by the Cowgirls, pushing the Lady Jackets to a 27-25 result.
HPU got out to a 5-1 lead in the third set and never looked back, rolling to the 25-19 result. Hardin-Simmons briefly tried to rally back, tying the set at six apiece before the Jackets were able to put some service aces on the board and pull away, 25-19.
Kailey Doering led all players with nine kills while
Shelbie Harry and Alyssa Beasley each added eight kills to get the victory.
Cheyanne Lovelady had 30 assists and
Callie Molloy led all players with 14 digs on the night.
Analisa Anzaldua had three service aces and 13 digs while Zhartezia Bradley added four kills and three blocks to help lead the Jackets to the victory. The Jackets record now stands at 5-8 and they are beginning to find their rhythm as a team lately.
