BELTON, Texas - The Howard Payne University football team lose 65-0 to the top-ranked team in the nation the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor Saturday afternoon in conference action.
The Howard Payne offense would struggled to move the ball all game with 110 yards of total offense, 89 rushing and 21 passing. Mary Hardin-Baylor ended with 421 yards of offense, 267 passing.
The Yellow Jacket defense played solid in the first few Mary Hardin-Baylor possessions. Then UMHB would open up a 37-0 halftime advantage after a 27 point second quarter.
HPU's
Hunter Batten had 46Â yards on 11 carries.
Caisson Montieth had 12 punts for 308 yards andÂ
Diondrae Williams had six kickoff returns for 92 yards.Â
Tevin Dawson led HPU with six tackles, one for loss.
Jake Wright had one sack along with four tackles.Â
Elijah Washington picked off one pass for the Jackets.
Howard Payne is now 1-5 overall and 1-4 in American Southwest Conference play. Mary Hardin-Baylor stands at 6-0 overall and 5-0 in conference. The Jackets will play at home next Saturday during Homecoming Weekend at 4:00 pm versus Sul Ross State University.
