BROWNWOOD, Texas - The Howard Payne University football lost 57-7 to conference opponent East Texas Baptist University Saturday evening at Gordon Wood Stadium,
Two fumbles lost and two thrown interceptions prove to be a big difference for the Yellow Jackets in a 57-7 conference loss to East Texas Baptist. The Tigers totaled 5-6 yards of total offense, 366 passing and 138 rushing while the Jackets totaled 293 yards, 147 passing and 146 rushing.
Howard Payne scored on a
Hunter Batten two yard run which capped an 11 play 61 yard drive. The extra point made the score 43-7 ETBU with 10:33 left in the fourth quarter.
Batten led the HPU attack with 73 yards on 22 carries and the one touchdown,
Brett Martinez followed with 57 yards on 15 carries.
In his first start of his career,
Jaxson Durham was 17 of 35 passing for 147 yards with two interceptions.
Edwin Godfrey led the Jackets receiving crew with four catches for 56 yards.
Jake Wright led the HPU defense with seven tackles.
Brady Wade and
Colton Dickerson each recorded a sack and
Patrick Hunt finished with three pass breakups from the safety position.
Howard Payne is now 1-4 overall and 1-3 in American Southwest Conference action. ETBUÂ stands at 4-1 overall and 3-1 in league play. Howard Payne will travel to the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton, Texas next Saturday for a 1:00 pm kickoff.
