SEGUIN, Texas - The Howard Payne University women's basketball team claimed a 66-60 non-conference road victory over Texas Lutheran University Monday evening.
Howard Payne forced 29 Texas Lutheran turnovers and out rebounded the Bulldogs 40-34 to claim the 66-60 victory and the Lady Jackets first win of the season.
After leading 37-28 at the half, the Lady Jacket were outscored 21-14 in the third quarter to only lead by two, 51-49 going into the final period.
Howard Payne outscored TLU 15-11 in the final quarter along with solid defense holding TLU to its lowest quarter output of the game.
Chelsey Harris led Howard Payne with 17 points followed by
Valarie Matlock with 12 points, seven rebounds, four assists and three steals. Chelsi Woodard pulled down a team high eight boards.
Dominique Featherstone added 10 points, six rebounds and three steals.
Anastasia Willis played solid off the bench with nine points and seven rebounds.
TLU was led by Cami Davis with 18 points followed by Presley Stephens with 12 points and nine rebounds.
Howard Payne is now 1-1 overall on the year with TLU falling to 1-2 overall. The Lady Jackets will be a NCAA D-I Lamar University on Tuesday at 7:00 pm.Â
