BROWNWOOD, Texas - The Howard Payne University softball team fell in both games of a doubleheader vs. Louisiana College on Friday afternoon at Lady Jacket Field.
During the first game, the Lady Jackets were held hitless as Wildcats pitcher, Savannah Settle went five complete innings in the circle to help will her squad to the 10-0 victory.
Audrey Simpson homered to deep center field to start the first inning of game two and the Lady Jackets reeled off five hits in the game. But another stellar performance from the Louisiana College pitching staff helped them claim a 9-1 victory in game two.
Coach Mata "We looked a bit better [in] game one due to injuries. Game two, we played hard and made some good plays. But I really felt Louisiana College played great today."
Madison Witherwax was on the mound for Howard Payne to start game one but Coach Mata would go on to use three pitchers throughout the five innings of play.
Tonya Thompson and
Tayler Rushing would each receive time on the mound for the Yellow Jackets.
Audrey Simpson started game two for Howard Payne but taming the Wildcats bats proved to be a difficult task. They would go on to tally 24 hits on the day to race to the two-game sweep.
The Lady Jackets will next face Louisiana College in the final game of the three-game series. Game time is set for 11:00 AM at Lady Jacket Field.
