BROWNWOOD, Texas - The Howard Payne University baseball team won its fifth straight game with a 7-4 victory over conference opponent LeTourneau University Friday afternoon.

The Yellow Jackets jumped on LeTourneau quickly scoring three in the bottom of the first. Howard Payne later scored three in the fourth to gain a 6-0 advantage.

The Jackets extended their lead to 7-0 in the seventh when Jay Holland singled to center field to plate David Groves. LeTourneau scored four in the top of the next inning but Zach Moseley come in to secure the HPU victory.

Joshua Gerig, Noah Payne and David Groves each recorded two hits for Howard Payne. 

Starter Matthew Parks (4-1) picked up the win going seven innings allowing three runs on five hits and striking out five. Chad Anders went .2 innings in relief before Zach Moseley came in to close out the game not allowing a hit in 1.1 innings. Moseley picked up his eighth save of the season.

Winning their fifth straight and eight of the last nine games, the Jackets improve to 12-7 overall and 5-2 in American Southwest Conference play. LeTourneau stands at 7-15 overall and 0-10 in league action. The two teams will finish out the series with a double header on Saturday starting at 12:00 noon. Before game one of the DH a breast cancer awareness event will be held.
