RICHARDSON, Texas - The Howard Payne University wrapped up its three-game road stand vs. the University of Texas at Dallas with a 9-0 loss in five innings on Saturday afternoon.
The Comets (23-8, 5-6 ASC) received a stellar performance from their bullpen in the loss and were able to hold the Lady Jackets (5-24-1, 3-21 ASC) bats silent for a majority of the game.
Tayler Rushing finished the day 1-2 from the plate and
Tonya Thompson and
Madison Witherwax split time in the circle for Howard Payne, combining to hold the Comets to just eight earned runs on the day.
The game started out close, with both teams exchanging scoreless first innings until UT-Dallas was able to load the bases and score on a wild pitch. They would go on to silence the Lady Jacket bats in the top of the second before unloading a six run inning in the bottom of the third to will themselves to a 7-0 lead.
They scored their final two runs in the fourth inning and then held on down the stretch to seal the 9-0 win and pick up the series sweep.
The Lady Jackets will next be in action on April 7th when they face off vs. Belhaven University in the first of a three game series. First pitch is slated to begin at 1:00 PM with the second game of the doubleheader following shortly thereafter.
