BROWNWOOD, Texas - The Howard Payne University women's basketball team outpaced the University of Texas at Tyler 70-48 in conference action Thursday evening.
After losing to UT-Tyler in the Lady Jackets season opener by 29 points, Howard Payne has made great strives since and showed it Thursday night defeating the Patriots 70-48.
Howard Payne held UT Tyler to just 25% shooting from behind the arc and forced 23 turnovers to lead 24-9 in points off turnovers.
The Lady Jackets used a 24 point second quarter to lead 41-24 at the halftime break. HPU would then hold UTT to just eight fourth period points to claim the 70-48 victory.

Jada Evans led all scorers with 15 points and three assists.
Presley McKethan followed with 14 points on 4 of 7 shooting from the three-point line.
Caprica Brooks had 10 points.
Valarie Matlock had 10 rebounds, nine points and five steals.
Chelsi Woodard grabbed 10 rebounds off the bench.
Carissa Spiker led UTT with 13 points and Bianca Valderrama and Alex Kochner each added 10 points.
Howard Payne is now 8-5 overall and 4-1 in American Southwest Conference play. UTT stands at 7-6 overall and 3-3 in league action. The Lady Jackets will play the University of the Ozarks on Saturday at 2:00 pm.
