BROWNWOOD, Texas: The Howard Payne Lady Jackets closed out the season with a win on Senior Night against the University of the Southwest Lady Stangs in the Historic Brownwood Coliseum.
The Lady Jackets got off to a slow start dropping the first set 25-21, but dominated set two and three 25-14 and 25-19. The Lady Stangs held HPU in check with a one sided fourth set to force the deciding set five.
After HPU got out to a 3-1 lead, it was evenly matched through the core of the set, being tied at 8-8. The Lady Jackets kicked it into over drive for the rest of the set thanks to some powerful attacks by senior
Zhartaezia Bradley and
Kylie Metcalf, and came away with the win 3-2 (21-25, 25-14, 25-19, 16-25, 15-11).
Bradley led the match in kills with 13 and blocks with 5.
Kylie Metcalf added 11 kills,
Mya Ross tallied a career high 26 digs along with
Kylee Shirley's 23.
McKenna Walker topped her career high in assists, set last week, tonight with 42.
The Lady Jackets finished the season winning 4 of their last 6 matches to finish 6-21, 2-13 in American Southwest Conference play.
