ABILENE, Texas – The Howard Payne University women's basketball team fell 98-43 to D-I Abilene Christian University Thursday afternoon at Moody Coliseum.
The Lady Jackets jumped out to an early lead; a
Caprica Brooks jumper with 5:12 left in the first quarter gave HPU an 11-5 advantage.
ACU went on a 19-2 run from that point to lead 24-13 at the end of the first quarter and led 48-24 at the halftime break.
After shooting 45.5% from the field in the first quarter, the Lady Jackets struggled the rest of the way shooting no more than 20% in each quarter afterward. HPU ended the game shooting 24.5% from the field and 6.3% from behind the arc.

Chelsey Harris led HPU with 12 points. Harris was 4-of-4 from the free-throw.
Caprica Brooks scored 8 points and was 4-of-6 from the line.
Anastasia Willis had 7 points and a team-high six rebounds.
ACU was led by Lexie Ducat with 14 points and 13 rebounds.
Howard Payne is now 0-2 overall and Abilene Christian stands at 2-0 overall. The Lady Jackets will play next on Saturday, Nov. 17th at Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas. It will be a 2:00 pm start time.
