JACKSON, Mississippi - The Howard Payne University women's basketball team dropped game one of the Millsaps College tournament 76-72 to host Millsaps Saturday afternoon.
Millsaps outscored Howard Payne by eleven in the third quarter to erase a five point (31-26) Lady Jacket halftime lead. HPU gained the halftime advantage after outscoring Millsaps 17-9 in the second quarter.
HPU slightly led the rebounding battle 34-33 and forced 27 Millsaps turnovers while committing 22 themselves. Millsaps connected on 50% of its shots in the game while Howard Payne shot 43.3% for the game.
Chelsey Harris led HPU with 22 points along with five rebounds.
Salina Ali and
Caprica Brooks each added 14 points. Brooks also grabbed a game-high nine rebounds and Ali had three assists and four steals.
Anastasia Willis followed with eight points, five assists and four steals.
Millsaps was led by Morgan McCrea with a game-high 26 points.
The Lady Jackets will play Birmingham-Southern University at 11:00 am on day two of the tourney.
