BROWNWOOD, Texas – The Howard Payne University women's basketball team dropped its home opener 73-58 to the University of Texas at Dallas Saturday afternoon at the Brownwood Coliseum.
After UT Dallas extended its halftime lead to 15 points in the third quarter, Howard Payne rallied and would pull to within six on layup by Lilly Janek with 2:37 left.
UT Dallas pulled away from that point using a 54-29 rebounding advantage in the game to secure the 73-58 final.
Howard Payne was out shot 42.2% to 35.6% in the game. Neither team shot the ball well from behind the arc both shooting under 16%.
Howard Payne was led by
Anastasia Willis and
Chelsey Harris each with 12 points. Willis grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds.
Payge Grable followed with 11 points and four assists off the bench.
Raenett Hughes led UTD with 15 points and 12 rebounds.
Howard Payne is now 3-5 overall and 0-1 in American Southwest Conference play. UT Dallas stands at 5-1 overall and 2-0 in league action. The Lady Jackets will play next on the road at LeTourneau University on Dec. 8th at 1:00 pm.
