LONGVIEW, Texas - The Howard Payne University women's basketball team held LeTourneau University to under 32% shooting in a 78-62 conference victory for the Lady Jackets Thursday evening.
Howard Payne would hold LeTourneau to just 31.7% shooting from the field, 28% from behind the arc in the game. The Lady Jackets on the other hand connected on 45% of their shots and were 5 of 8 from three-point range on the night.
After opening up a 17-8 first quarter lead, Letu rallied to take a one point advantage midway through the second quarter. HPU finished the half strong and held a 38-32 lead at the break.
Howard Payne pulled away in the fourth to secure the game outscoring Letu 23-14 to end the game.
Five Lady Jackets finished with double digit scoring led by
Chelsey Harris and
Jada Jones with 15 points each. Jones was 6 of 7 from the field.
Anastasia Willis added a 11 points and 11 rebounds (7 offensive boards).
Lily Janek and
Payge Grable each had 11 points, Janek was 3 of 4 from behind the three-point line in the game.
Howard Payne is now 4-5 overall and 2-1 in American Southwest Conference action. Letu stands at 1-7 overall and 0-4 in league play. The Lady Jackets will play at East Texas Baptist on Monday at 5:30 pm.
