MARSHALL, Texas - The Howard Payne University women's basketball team struggled on the offensive side of the ball in an 81-49 loss to #12/14 East Texas Baptist University Monday evening in conference action.
The Howard Payne Lady Jackets would connect on just 35.3% of shots while ETBUÂ shot 50% from the field in the game. Despite forcing 21 ETBUÂ turnovers, the Lady Jackets were out rebounded 40-25 on the night.
With the Lady Jackets leading 8-7 midway through the first quarter, ETBUÂ finished out the first period with a 14-2 run to lead 21-12. ETBUÂ pulled away from that point leading to the 81-49 final.
Howard Payne was led by
Payge Grable with 15 points sparked by 4 of 6 shooting from behind the arc.
Julissa Ibarra scored 11 off the bench and
Caprica Brooks added 10 points along with three steals.
Kendrick Clark led ETBUÂ with 18 points and five assists.
Howard Payne is now 4-6 overall and 1-2 in American Southwest Conference action. ETBUÂ strands at 9-1 overall and 3-1 in conference. The Lady Jackets will be back at home later this week taking on Louisiana College on Thursday at 5:30 pm and Belhaven University on Saturday at 1:00 pm, both in the Brownwood Coliseum.
