BROWNWOOD, Texas – The Howard Payne University women's basketball team dropped an American Southwest Conference game versus Louisiana College 72-62 Thursday evening at the Brownwood Coliseum.
Jumping out to a 20-16 lead after one quarter of play, the Lady Jackets would struggle offensively the rest of the game shooting just 32.8 % from the field, while Wildcats connected on 50% of their shots in the game.
Posting only nine points in the second quarter, HPU trailed LC 39-29 at the half. The Jackets and the Wildcats both posted 33 second half points, but the Jackets could not cut into the 10 point deficit. HPU out rebounded LC 42-36 in the contest. The LC bench outscored HPU's bench 16-4.
Howard Payne was led by
Chelsey Harris who had a game high 27 points, as she connected on 5-10 three pointers. Adding four steals, Harris played in all 40 minutes of the game.
Anastasia Willis logged her third double-double of the season as she posted 18 points and grabbed a game high 13 rebounds.
Payge Grable added nine points, and Crapria Brooks logged 12 rebounds.
Jayla Landrum led LC with 22 points, followed by Kourtney McGhee with 21.
Howard Payne is now 4-7 overall and 1-3 in American Southwest Conference play. LC moves to 5-2 overall and 2-1 in conference. The Lady Jackets will be back at home on Saturday as they take on Belhaven University at 1:00 pm.
