BROWNWOOD, Texas – The Howard Payne University women's basketball team dropped an American Southwest Conference game 64-52 versus Belhaven University Saturday afternoon at the Brownwood Coliseum.
Despite the Lady Jackets forcing 33 turnovers, Belhaven would out rebound HPU 57-37 and hold the Lady Jackets to 25.3% shooting from the field in the game.
Leading 18-12 after one quarter of play, the Blazers would not budge as the Lady Jackets made a run midway though the second quarter pulling within two points making the score 23-21. Belhaven led at the half 25-21.

Chelsey Harris three pointer cut Belhaven's lead to three points midway through the third quarter making the score 43-40. Belhaven tacked on three more points giving them the 46-40 edge heading into the fourth quarter.
Belhaven went on a 10-0 run to start the fourth quarter to take a 56-40 advantage. The Lady Jackets put up 10 points in the quarter, but could not match Belhaven's 18 fourth quarter points in the 64-52 final.
Chelsey Harris scored a game high 23 points for the Lady Jackets, followed by
Anastasia Willis and Lilly Janek with eight points a piece. Willis pulled down a team high 10 rebounds and dished out four assists.
The Lady Jackets shot only 25.3% in the game versus Belhaven's 39.6%. Alexis Caldwell led Belhaven with 16 points, followed by Aaliyaha Thorton with 13.
Howard Payne is now 4-8 overall and 1-4 in American Southwest Conference play. Belhaven moves to 4-4 and 2-4 in ASC play. The Lady Jackets will head to Beaumont, Texas as they take on D-I Lamar University on Monday at 12:00 pm. You can watch the game on ESPN3.
