BEAUMONT, Texas - Howard Payne University's
Chelsey Harris scored a team high 18 points in a 93-37 loss at D-I Lamar University Monday afternoon in non-conference action.
With Howard Payne leading 8-7 with 3 minutes remaining in the first quarter, Lamar went on an 11-0 run to end the period never trailing the remainder of the game.
Despite the Lady Jackets keeping up with Lamar in the fourth, Lamar finished the game out rebounding Howard Payne 53-30 and forcing 31 Lady Jacket turnovers. The Lady Jacket defense did click at times forcing 20 Lamar turnovers.
Chelsey Harris led HPU with 18 points along with four rebounds and two steals, she was 10 of 12 from the free-throw line.
Caprica Brooks grabbed a team high eight rebounds.
Lily Janek was 2 of 2 from behind the arc in the game.
Lamar was led by Chastadie Barrs with a game-high 20 points and 12 rebounds.
Howard Payne is now 4-9 overall and Lamar stands at 6-4 on the year. The Lady Jackets will play next on Thursday, Jan. 3rd at the University of the Ozarks in Clarksville, Ark. It will be a 5:30 pm start time.
