CLARKSVILLE, Arkansas - The University of the Ozarks used a late game surge to defeat the Howard Payne University Lady Jackets 62-60 Thursday evening in conference action.
With Howard Payne holding a 60-54 lead with 2:33 remaining in the fourth period, the University of the Ozarks used an 8-0 over the final two and a half minutes of the game to defeat Howard Payne 62-60. Howard Payne was unable to score in its final four possessions of the game and and missed on a three-point shot at the buzzer to win.
After trailing 30-26 at the half, the Lady Jackets took the third quarter to tie the game at 46-46 going into the final period. HPU started the fourth strong gaining a six point advantage, 53-47, on a
Chelsey Harris free-throw with 6:11 left in the game.
Lily Janek led HPU with 15 points on 5 of 7 shooting from the field and 3 of 5 shooting from behind the arc.
Payge Grable and
Anastasia Willis each followed with 10 points each. Grable dished out four assists and
Chelsi Woodard grabbed a team high five rebounds.
Ozarks was led by Hailey Ostrander with 17 points followed by Hannah Weatherford with 13 points.
Howard Payne is now 4-10 overall and 1-5 in American Southwest Conference action. Ozarks stands at 6-6 overall and 4-1 in league play. The Lady Jackets will now travel to the University of Texas at Tyler on Saturday for a 1:00 pm game.
