Lady Jackets Win 73-69

BROWNWOOD, Texas - The Howard Payne University women's basketball team got a career high 21 points from senior Djimonii Jackson in a 73-69 conference victory over Concordia University Texas Thursday evening in the Brownwood Coliseum.

Howard Payne outscored Concordia 22-14 in the fourth quarter while forcing 27 Tornado turnovers in the game. Both teams shot the ball well in the game with Concordia at 49.1% and Howard Payne shooting 44.8%.

Djimonii Jackson played a key roll for the Lady Jackets with 13 first half points on her way to a new career high of 21 points. She also pulled down six rebounds.

Jada Evans and Valarie Matlock followed with 16 points each. Presley McKethan added 12 points, seven rebounds and four steals.

Concordia was led by Payton Berger with 19 points and nine rebounds. Mercedes Ellison added 18 points and seven rebounds.

Howard Payne University is now 15-9 overall and 11-5 in American Southwest Conference action. Concordia falls to 13-11 overall and 9-7 in league play. The Lady Jackets will finish out the regular season at home on Saturday at 2:00 pm versus Mary Hardin-Baylor. The Lady Jackets are headed to the American Southwest Conference Tournament with the official tournament bracket to be released later in the weekend.
