BROWNWOOD, Texas - The Howard Payne University women's basketball team outscored Sul Ross State University 41-17 in the fourth quarter to claim a 95-65 conference victory Saturday afternoon.
Howard Payne shot 68% from the field in the second half and forced 26 turnovers in the game while holding Sul Ross to just 25% shooting in the second half.
The Lady Jackets held just a slight 32-31 lead at the break but would not start pouring on the offense till the fourth quarter scoring 41 of their 95 points in the final period.
With six Lady Jackets in double digits,Â
Jada Evans led the offensive charge with 20 points on 6 of 10 shooting, 8 of 10 from the line.
Presley McKethan had 16 points on 6 of 9 shooting with five steals.
Valarie Matlock added 15 points, five assists and a game high seven steals.
Arriyanna Forch and
Caprica Brooks each finished with 11 points and
Anastasia Willis ended the game with 10 points and a game high nine rebounds.
Chelsi Woodard had three blocks and five boards.
Sul Ross was led by Erica Powell with 21 poins and eight rebounds. Annie Lenor and Keilan Williams followed with 16 points each.
Howard Payne is now 13-8 overall and 9-4 in American Southwest Conference action. Sul Ross falls to 6-15 overall and 2-12 in league play. The Lady Jackets will be on the road next week in Abilene at McMurry University on Thursday at 5:30 pm and at Hardin-Simmons University on Saturday at 2:00 pm.
