ALPINE, Texas - The Howard Payne University volleyball team needed only three sets to defeat conference opponent Sul Ross State University Tuesday evening at the Gallego Center.

Controlling most of the match, the Lady Jackets went down to the desert looking to take of business, and they did exactly that. After Howard Payne picked up the first set 25-20 and after that, the Lady Jackets wouldn't look back. The Lobos fought tough during the third set, taking the Lady Jackets all the way to 22-22 (25-21, 25-15, 25-22), but Howard Payne shut the door and should be well rested for their 8 a.m. classes on Wednesday morning.

Kylie Metcalf and Zhartaezia Bradley led HPU with six kills followed by Mya Ross with five. Zhartaezia Bradley added 3 blocks to go with it. McKenna Walker had a solid night racking up 18 assists and ten digs. 

Howard Payne is now 2-4 overall and 1-0 in American Southwest Conference action. Sul Ross State stands at 1-4 overall and 0-1 in conference play. The Lady Jackets will do battle with our old rival Hardin Simmons on Friday at home in The Coliseum in Brownwood, Texas at 7:00 pm.
