SEGUIN, Texas - The Howard Payne University volleyball team dropped its opening non-conference match 3-0 to Texas Lutheran University Tuesday evening.
After poor hitting by HPU in the first two sets, the Lady Jackets would settle in offensively in the third with a .219 attack pct. It would not be enough with Texas Lutheran posting a .266 attack pct. for the match.
The Lady Jackets dropped the first set 25-13 after TLU got out to a 10-2 lead. Â
The match went back and forth in the second set, but TLU would take control midway through the set to close out with a score of 25-15. The Lady Jackets gave the Bulldogs a run for their money in the third set, but came up just a bit short at 25-21 in end to drop the series 3-0.
Zhartezia Bradley led Howard Payne with eight kills, followed byÂ
Kailey Doering with six.
McKenna Walker finished the match with 15 assists and seven digs,
Christian Wilson also had nine digs, and
Mya Ross answered with eight.
Kylie Metcalf added two blocks to the stat sheet as well.
Howard Payne is now 0-1 overall early this season and Texas Lutheran stands at 2-1. The Lady Jackets will play next on Friday, Sept. 7-8 at the Austin College hosted by Austin College in Sherman, Texas.
