NEWBURG, Oregon - The Howard Payne University football team committed five turnovers in a 35-3 season opening loss to George Fox University Saturday afternoon at Stoffer Family Stadium.
George Fox tallied 372 yards of total offense, 209 on the ground but it was Howard Payne's four interceptions and one fumble loss that was the difference in the game. The Yellow Jackets posted 134 yards of total offense, 107 in the air.
With George Fox scoring a touchdown in the first quarter and two in the second, the Bruins would add two TDs in the third quarter to gain a 35-0 advantage with 4:43 remaining in the quarter. The Yellow Jackets would hold the Bruins scoreless the remaining of the quarter and throughout the fourth.
The Yellow Jackets got on the scoreboard with :54 seconds remaining in the game when
Cristian Gonzalez hit a 45 yard field goal to make the score 35-3.

DunTayviun Gross finished with five catches for 44 yards and four kickoff returns for 96 yards (long of 42 yds).
Gage McClanahan was 15 of 26 for 107 yards with four interceptions.
Britt Boler led Yellow Jacket and all tacklers with 11 followed by Austin Kilgore with 10.
Howard Payne is now 0-1 on the year and George Fox improves to 1-1 overall. The Yellow Jackets will be at home next week, Sept. 15th, versus American Southwest Conference opponent McMurry University. It will be a 7:00 pm kickoff at Gordon Wood Stadium.
